OneAmerica – WA Long-Term Care Application Processing UpdateBenkis Barrueta
From One America
We would like to share an important application processing update now that the state of Washington (WA) Nov. 1st deadline has passed for individual coverage to be in place for the WA Cares Fund exemption. As you know, the volume of applications from WA put a significant strain on carriers and vendors who support this business across the industry.
While OneAmerica Underwriters and Case Managers are focused on processing as much business as possible before year-end, our processing times remain higher than normal. Unfortunately, our ability to provide and respond to status requests is also impacted. Continue to monitor your pending cases 24/7 through OneSource Online or your back-office staff, as appropriate. We appreciate your patience while we work to serve as many customers as possible.
With that in mind, here is the current status on processing pending applications:
- OneAmerica will continue to process and underwrite all business, with an emphasis on cases that have year-end deadlines due to compliance- or pricing-related changes. All other businesses will follow our normal business processing guidelines and procedures.
- We realize that many individuals from WA state applied for coverage in order to qualify for the state’s payroll tax exemption. While the exemption deadline has passed, we continue to underwrite pending WA applications and will issue state coverage once approved. However, if your client no longer wants to continue with the underwriting process, please reach out to your
OneAmerica Case Manager. This will allow us to focus on those applicants who still want coverage regardless of the exemption deadline.
OneAmerica is working toward resuming sales of our Asset Care and Annuity Care products in WA as soon as is practical. We will share the timing and approach when the dates are finalized.
**OneAmerica does not determine policies eligible for exemption from the WA Cares Fund. The application will be part of any contract issued and contain the application date. Information about the WA Cares Fund and the application for exemption can be found at wacaresfund.wa.gov.
